Read moreX Hand Carved Arts & Crafts Solid Oak Bookcase
£0FREE Delivery on this piece.
A superb solid oak bookcase dating from around the early part of the 20th Century and very much of the Arts & Crafts influence (1880-1920 in the UK) . This was clearly a commissioned piece hand made and hand carved with the initials WL to one of the uprights. The quality of the carpentry with the pegged ends and the quality of the hand carving show this was made by a true craftsman. An unusual design, with a fusion of Arts & Crafts along with an ecclesiastical influence. It may well have been produced for a local church or chapel. Only one of the supports (the right hand as you look at the bookcase) has been carved, the other is plain – as can be seen in the photographs.
We love it for its design, quality craftsmanship and practicality. Lots of shelf storage space with the added bonus of an enclosed upper cupboard. Original brassware to the handles and sliding bolt just add to the originality and appeal.
Dimensions:
142cm High (to top of side supports), 100cm Max Width, 21cm Deep
