£0FREE Ground Floor Delivery on this desk within approximately 150 miles of Cambridgeshire. Some more remote and rural areas will incur a charge.
This desk has an incredible provenance. It came out of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University, where the first atom was split in April 1932. John Cockroft and Ernest Walton split the first atom at the Cavendish Laboratory. We have video evidence of the stairs to the laboratory and the office to the right, where this desk was. Clearly we can not say if either of these two pioneering scientists ever used the desk but the age and location fit perfectly.
The desk is beautiful in its own right. Dating from the late teens to early 1930’s it is presented in its original oak. We gave as little restoration to the piece as we could. We simply cleaned the desk, sanded and cleaned the internal drawer liners and also restored the top only. We wanted to keep as much of the desk in its original used condition as possible; whilst also offering a piece ready for a very lucky new owner to cherish. An rare opportunity to own a very special desk.
This size is superb for home/ home office/ study. Not too large but a really useful size work space.
The desk does not disassemble so please measure all door widths and access points (e.g. stairs, turning points) before purchasing.
Desk Dimensions:
137cm Wide, 76cm Deep, 76.5cm High

£0FREE UK Delivery on this piece within approximately 150 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield locations will incur a surcharge to send via couriers. The piece splits in to two sections for easier transportation.
A rustic set of 30 workshop drawers in pine. The piece came to us in really bad shape, having been painted and heavily varnished badly over the years. We fully stripped the carcass and all drawer fronts, after removing all of the super original label holders. The carcass was refinished in farrow & Ball Railings with a clear wax finish for protection. All of the drawers were then stained and varnished in a satin sheen before re-attaching the brass label holders/ handles. The drawers do have dovetail joints and nice thick pine internals but we would definitely say it is a rustic piece, not fine carpentry. There are a few drawers that show historical woodworm but the whole piece has been treated twice against woodworm and infestation. The marks are old. Some people like this look, others don’t. Please see all photographs for the condition of the drawer fronts and just ask if you have any further questions.
We think it has a super look of campaign, rustic and practical. It would suit crafters perfectly? But store whatever your heart desires.
Dimensions:
Width: 108 cm
Height: 145.5 cm
Max Depth: 50 cmEach drawer has internal dimensions of 29cm wide, 38.5cm front to back. The top 12 drawers are 8.4cm high, the middle and bottom 18 drawers are 11.5cm high. All measurements are internal.
The drawers split in to three separate sections for easier transportation and siting.

Read moreOriginal Antique Armoire / Dresser in Farrow & Ball Off Black
£0FREE Ground Floor delivery on this piece within approximately 150 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield locations will incur a surcharge to send via furniture couriers.
An original turn of the 20th Century Armoire, made from mahogany with glazed doors. A beautiful design with decorative corbels and glass trim finishing. The armoire has been stripped, refurbished, painted in Farrow & Ball Off Black to the exterior and Shaded White to the interior. Both paint finishes are flat matt. The glass in the doors is original too.
The repainting has kept all of the original detailed design work but brought the piece in to the Contemporary market. A beautiful colour scheme with the age and style of the original piece. The armoire is of a great size to be easily able to accommodate for most people. Not incredibly tall or wide, but very well proportioned. The lower solid sections of the doors, together with the bottom drawer mean you can show off the pretty things and hide the necessary (but not so pretty) things. The shelves are also height adjustable.
We adore this!
