A very attractive and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1930’s. These desks are often referred to as teachers desks. This one came to us covered in a horrendous white emulsion ‘shabby chic’ paint job but very very poorly done. We always prefer original antique or vintage finishes with gentle restoration, wherever we are able to bring a piece back to the bets it can be. With the paint on this desk there was no option but to fully strip it and restore it back to its original beautiful oak finish.
The quality of the radial cut oak meant we did not need to stain or change the colour in any way. We only added a protective finish in satin sheen varnish to seal the oak against spills and stains etc. The handles are original to the desk and we removed them to give them a thorough clean and polish.
It now offers all of the original quality, design and antique style with an almost ‘as new’ finish. Unusually this desk also splits quite easily for ease of moving between rooms. The top is removed, one retaining bar removed and the two pedestals separate.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb antique desk that looks beautiful.
