£0FREE Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A beautiful and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1920’s. These desks are often referred to as teachers desks. This one came to us with a leather top that was all warped and stained, with very tired and dull framework. We cleaned the desk and gently restored the beautiful radial cut English oak to bring it back to it best. The original leather top was beyond repair so we added a brand new quality leather top in a dark tan colour. The results hopefully speak for themselves. The oak grain is gleaming again and the top is a beautiful colour to complement the oak. Even the drawer internals are in oak, a real sign of the quality of handmade construction (by W H James, Birmingham). Finished with original handles the desk is back to its former glory.
A stunning desk and a real heavyweight – reflective of the age and quality of oak used in its construction. This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb antique desk that looks gorgeous.

A very attractive and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1930’s. These desks are often referred to as teachers desks. This one is in the perfectly aged oak finish, not too dark or light – just right! It has six free running and very clean drawers in total. The bottom drawer of the right hand pedestal is a double height filing drawer, with original wooden dividers. There is also a locking mechanism internally which means the pedestal drawers are locked by pushing the central drawer all the way in. To open the pedestal drawers you simply open the central drawer to release the mechanism. A superb desk with lots of work space and huge storage space. There are some cosmetic stains and signs of wear to the top of the desk. Nothing significant and we have tried to take close up photographs, so please see all pictures. The brass feet tips to each of the legs are also original and a very nice finishing feature, marking the quality of hand manufacture.
The desk does dismantle for ease of moving through doorways, carrying upstairs etc. but please let us know if you would like the desk delivered fully assembled or taken down to its parts (top, two pedestals, two cross retaining bars). £0FREE Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A very attractive and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1930’s. These desks are often referred to as teachers desks. This one came to us covered in a horrendous white emulsion ‘shabby chic’ paint job but very very poorly done. We always prefer original antique or vintage finishes with gentle restoration, wherever we are able to bring a piece back to the bets it can be. With the paint on this desk there was no option but to fully strip it and restore it back to its original beautiful oak finish.
The quality of the radial cut oak meant we did not need to stain or change the colour in any way. We only added a protective finish in satin sheen varnish to seal the oak against spills and stains etc. The handles are original to the desk and we removed them to give them a thorough clean and polish.
It now offers all of the original quality, design and antique style with an almost ‘as new’ finish. Unusually this desk also splits quite easily for ease of moving between rooms. The top is removed, one retaining bar removed and the two pedestals separate.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb antique desk that looks beautiful.

£0FREE Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A very attractive and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1970’s. This desk was handmade by a carpenter in Newcastle for his daughter to study for her A Levels. He made it in his shed at the bottom of the garden. She was the first member of his family that stood a chance of going to University!
This style of desk is often referred to as teachers desks but this one was definitely a study desk. We love the story, the handmade imperfections and the aged colour and patina of it. It is now available for somebody else to love and use.
Please check all photographs for the condition of the desk. Should you need any more detailed pictures, just ask. We ask that you check all measurements of the desk to make sure it can pass through doorways and access points before making a decision to purchase.
