A very rare early 20th Century double pedestal desk in oak by Globe Wernicke. Globe Wernicke were world renowned for producing their stacking Barristers’ bookcases in the first half of the 20th Century, following their buy out of Wernicke (Minneapolis) in 1899. The production of Globe Wernicke desks was in much smaller quantities and finding examples in good condition is becoming very rare indeed.
This double pedestal desk is made from their highest grade radial cut oak, which they used exclusively for their premium end range of office furniture. Manufactured in the early 1930’s, it is presented in its original colour and finish with the original leather top and original brass drop handles. The leather is in excellent condition given 90 years of use, though there is one small patch which has worn through (circa 15mm x 10mm).
Now offering fantastic style with lots of storage space it is a very desirable and stylish desk with beautiful handles. The left pedestal offers four free running drawers whilst the right pedestal has a marvellously deep filing drawer with two drawers above.
With continued care and attention this rare desk can surely only appreciate in value. A superb time to buy this rare gem.
