This gym bench dates to around the late 1950’s to mid 1960’s. It is a very rare find being produced by ESA. Esavian – ESA – was the brand name for the Education Supply Association Ltd. They produced a lot of Post War school and industrial mid century furniture. Most people know the furniture from school as a lot of it was produced in the 1950s and 60s. James Leonard designed a lot of the ESA beech and ply furniture.
This bench is in super original condition both in the beech framework and the true and square shoes baskets. Most of the baskets get bent or broken over the years but this one is in really good, straight condition, with perfect aged patina to the metal work. Please note this is around 60 years old and will bear signs of use and wear. Please see all photographs for the true condition before purchasing. It has all the original style and character, ready for another 60+ years of use.
These are very popular benches and we are finding it harder and harder to get them like this. Every time we manage to find one it flies out to another very happy customer.
A perfect way of tidying up a hallway or entrance whilst adding a real style statement.

This gym/ changing bench dates to 1970 (one of the benches dated underneath in pencil) and came to us straight from a school in Prestwich, Manchester. It is in amazing original condition for its age and previous use. Constructed from steel box section and solid teak throughout it has a nice weight and looks fantastic. We just gave it a good clean, and teak oiled the wood for replenishment and refresh.
This piece has all the superb old school styling you could want and a very cute size for a small space.

This old school gym/ changing bench dates to the early 1960’s and came to us straight from a school near Cambridge. We had to make some new legs as the original ones were cut at the back for fitting over radiator pipes (definitely old school!) It is now fully stable with no wobbles and perfectly aged wear on the baskets, square steel legs in sprayed black paint and superb solid hardwood top. It has a really nice weight and looks fantastic We just gave it a good clean, and lightly oiled the seat for replenishment and a refresh.
This piece has all the superb old school styling you could want and a really good size. A perfect way of tidying up a hallway or entrance whilst adding a real style statement.

This gym/ changing bench dates to the 1980’s and is a fantastic size and design. It is a super size and design for clearing the hallway or boot room. The size is generous but not over sized and difficult to accommodate. The hooks are set at adult height, not children’s. With twelve very nicely designed double hooks it offers SO much hanging space. The wooden seat has some gentle ageing and wear to prove its age and authenticity. Superb old School Retro styling with heaps of practicality!

Constructed from steel box section and solid oak slats it has a really good solid weight and looks fantastic We just gave it a good clean, and lightly waxed the oak with a clear wax for replenishment and a refresh.
