A beautifully designed and produced Art Deco dressing table by Waring & Gillow. Waring & Gillow (established 1897) were very well regarded and established producers of fine quality furniture. Throughout their history Waring & Gillow secured contracts for a number of luxury yachts and liners. These included the interior fittings of HM Alberta (1901) after Queen Victoria’s death, the royal steam yacht Victoria and Albert III, the interior of the Princesse Alice (1895) for Prince Albert of Monaco, the Lysistrata (1901) for James Gordon Bennett, the P&O liner, the Viceroy of India (1929), and the Queen Mary (1936).
Like other prestigious furniture retailers of the Victorian era, Waring & Gillow also secured furnishing contracts for a number of new luxury hotels that were being constructed in the capital. These included the Carlton Hotel, the Waldorf and the Ritz.
This beautiful dressing table was produced in the 1930’s and very much of the Art Deco movement influence. It has a good quality weight having been made from beautiful walnut and burr walnut. The mirror is completely original and free from any chips or noticeable scratches. There are a few spots of foxing to the bottom left (see photograph). All of the handles and glass shelves are original. The condition and the walnut grain are exceptional. It is a beautiful and pretty unique piece that is also of a size to make it very easy to accommodate in the room of your choice.

A stunning design by Alfred Cox from the late 1960’s. The credenza, or sideboard has the quality hand craftsmanship expected by this high quality producer. Alfred Cox pieces were sold in high quality retailers, including Heals of London. The piece is long and heavy, reflective of the quality of Australian Walnut wood used. The main cabinetry is made of beautifully grained walnut, complemented by teak and beech to the handles and lower frame/ legs. All of the drawers and internal sections of the piece are clean and run freely. There is one light sub surface scratch to the top. Difficult to see unless very close but please see photograph.
With two cupboard areas and 4 drawers there is a vast array of storage space available. It could be used as a TV stand and media unit, drinks cabinet and books etc etc. Amazing mid century styling in a beautiful finish by a very well regarded name. It’s got it all.

A beautifully designed chest of three drawers with original dressing mirror above. This piece was designed by Alfred Cox and hand made in the Alfred Cox furniture factory for sale via Heals of London. This particular set was bought in 1947 and owned from new by the private owner that we managed to acquire them from. They have beautiful quarter drawn (Australian) walnut grain, reflective of the quality of timber used. We adore the grain, the lines and particularly the legs and base. The drawers are all free running and have very clean internals. They are gradated in depth from top to bottom and retain all of their original bespoke tuned handles, from solid walnut. The mirror can tilt via the adjusting slider at the back. It can also easily be removed should you want to just have the chest of drawers sat on their own in a hallway, living room etc.
These Alfred Cox pieces are rapidly becoming a mid Century design classic and can only increase in value if looked after well.

A beautiful chest of early 20th Century drawers dating from around the early 1900’s to 1920. They are presented in a beautifully aged rich walnut finish and are in super original condition throughout. The drawers are configured in a set of two over three very clean and solid drawers. The handles are all original with a very Arts & Crafts style. All drawers are very well made with pin dovetail joints to the sides. The drawer internals are very clean and the whole chest is completely solid and free form any wobbles or loose joints. The style is very much Arts & Crafts with some very sharp carving detail, reflecting the quality of hand made craftsmanship. They are beautifully and classically designed and will blend with many interior styles and colour schemes.
This chest will look perfect in almost any room you choose. It’s a real keeper!

A very stylish and superb value for money 1960’s sideboard by Beautility. It is a heavy piece, reflective of the solid wood construction with attractive chequer board grain pattern work. It is finished in its original rich walnut finish, complete with all original handles and glass sliding doors. Its sits very well on its solid splayed leg base, very stereotypical mid century ‘Modern’ design. An exquisite chest of two over three graduated drawers in stunning original mahogany. The drawers are classic George III lines and they date to around the turn of the 18th to 19th Century. Possibly as early as 1760, as late as 1820. All drawers run freely and retain their original bottoms in good order. All handles are original and in excellent condition for a chest that is around 220 years old. The chest has a perfectly aged colour and patina, all in exceptional condition. We adore these for their age, condition, size and classic George III lines.
A classic piece that will never go out of style and will only get better and better with age.

A strikingly designed tallboy chest of four drawers. We adore the walnut grain work, the very different handles and most of all the cute little legs at the base. There is quality craftsmanship and joint work throughout with dovetail joints to all four corners of each of the drawers. The chest has a good weight, beautifully chamfered walnut frame work and four free running clean drawers. Very minimalist but warm and different – a great piece!

A beautifully designed tallboy chest of five drawers. This piece was designed by Alfred Cox and hand made in the Alfred Cox furniture factory for sale via Heals of London. They have beautiful quarter drawn walnut grain, reflective of the quality of timber used. We adore the grain, the lines and particularly the legs and base. The drawers are all free running and have very clean internals. They are gradated in depth from top to bottom and retain all of their original bespoke tuned handles, from solid walnut. There is one small ‘ding’ to the top edge of the 3rd drawer – approximately 4mm in width. Hardly noticeable but we have to mention it for honesty of condition.
These Alfred Cox pieces are rapidly becoming a 60’s design classic and can only increase in value if looked after well. We have another set of these tallboy drawers and two different styles of console tables/ dressing tables/ TV stands available too. All beautiful and all by Alfred Cox of the same design and period – should you want a matching suite.
