A very stylish and solid mid century double pedestal desk handmade in oak. It was produced by Angus (of London) around the late 1930’s to 1940’s and is in completely original condition but fully cleaned and gently restored by us. It presents itself in a beautiful deep honey coloured oak with superb original patina and a really nicely sized work surface for home use. With five free running drawers there is also a lot of very useful storage space. The bottom right hand drawer is a double height deep filing type drawer for extra storage. There are also two pull out shelves at the top of each pedestal. The desk also has a patented and unique full drawer locking mechanism which allows all drawers to be locked via the central drawer. Instructions are still printed on the label inside the top drawer. Some superb history and provenance.
English oak with quality dovetails joints showing the quality of construction. The drawer internals are also very clean. The top is original and in exceptional condition for the age of the desk. Save for two ‘lines’/ scratches (photographed) it is outstanding. Some very small parts of veneer are missing at the very bottom of the side panels (see photograph).
The build and quality will mean these desks can only appreciate in value if looked after well.

A beautiful antique desk in solid beech frame and drawers, dating from the 195o’s. It was supplied for the Crown by Staverton for Military or Civil Service use. These desks typically came from a Government office/ Public Service such as Civil Servant Offices, Schools, Railways etc. The top is the original which has now attained a unique crackle glazed patina. We couldn’t replace that originality. People will either love it or not but there is only one chance at original. Nothing that detracts from the desk in any way but we like to point out any issues and also show in the photographs. The close up photographs show the finish. All ready for regular use and another 70 years.

£0FREE Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A beautiful antique desk in solid English oak, dating from the 193o’s. It was supplied by the Crown for Military or Civil Service use. These desks typically came from a Government office/ Public Service such as Civil Servant Offices, Schools, Railways etc. We restored the oak framework as the original brown finish was dark and very inconsistent. it looked very tired indeed! We re-finished it in a very flexible warm mid oak which always seems to be our most popular finish for desks. Both drawers are free running with original handles, stamped with the Crown and GR (George Regina). The top is the original gorgeous green finish, though does carry some cosmetic marks form its past. Nothing that detracts from the desk in any way but we like to point out any issues and also show in the photographs. The close up photographs make the marks look worse than they really are! Now very fresh and ready for regular use.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb quality antique desk.
Please not that the desk does not disassemble. The top may be removed but would only change the depth by a few centimetres. You should double check that the desk will pass through all doorways and turns before purchasing. Any questions then please just ask us.

An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess double pedestal desk in Oak. This one has a superb back story too. It was owned since 1986 by a prestigious Music journalist that used the desk to write many articles. He wrote for many of the top UK Magazines including Q, NME, and JazzLife. He won Music Journalist of the year twice! These desks are often referred to as Teacher’s desks and it may have been in a school for 30 years before being acquired by its previous owner.
The desk dates from around the 1950’s and is a superb colour and size. Three drawers to the left hand pedestal and two drawers to the right hand pedestal. The bottom right hand drawer being a double height filing type drawer. This desk also has the central kneehole drawer. There are also two pull out trays, the right hand one being the original Abbess stationery tray. All in all offering lots of really useful storage. We had to sand back and restore the top as it clearly had been used for lots of work and was tired and peeling. It is now fully restored and ready for another 50 years of work and creativity by a lucky new owner.
A great size desk, offering a generous fully functioning workspace but not too large to be difficult to position or accommodate. The colour and condition are exactly right for a very stylish work/ study desk. With the prestigious back story to boot, it is a fantastic opportunity to get a desk with real soul.
We have sold a number of these Abbess desks and they never hang around for long. Especially not in this colour with history.
