An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess double pedestal desk in Oak. These are often referred to as Teacher’s desks. This one dates from around the 1950’s and is a superb colour and size. Two drawers to both pedestals offering lost of really useful storage.
A great size offering a generous fully functioning desk but not too large to be difficult to position or accommodate. The colour and condition are exactly right for a very stylish work/ study desk.
We have sold a number of these Abbess desks and they never hang around for long.

A very cute and stylish desk / table by Abbess. Made from a beautifully rich Walnut and walnut veneer it could be used as a desk, if space is tight, a cute dressing table or hall/ console table. It could equally be a great desk for a child or teen. Made around the late 1960’s to early 1970’s it retains the Abbess label inside the drawer and is stamped to the bottom of the drawer. Superb Retro styling and a great colour. A desk/ table with a difference. There is one very small area of missing/ cracked veneer to the bottom left corner of the drawer. Very small indeed but please see photograph for size.

An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess desk in Oak. These are often referred to as Teacher’s desks. This one dates from around the 1950’s and is a superb rich colour and size. Two drawers to the pedestals offering lost of really useful storage, with the bottom drawer being a double height filing type drawer, complete with original dividers. This style also offers a really useful centre kneehole drawer for even more storage. The Abbess makers label are still in tact to the exterior of the drawer pedestal, stamped in the bottom of the kneehole drawer and also impressed in to the stationery tray. The desk is in really solid original condition with only the top needing a good clean and gentle refurbishment. Please check all photographs for the condition and ask if you have any further questions.

A beautiful desk in solid English radial cut oak, dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century. It dates from around 1900-1920 and carries very distinctive Arts & Crafts movement lines and tapered legs. It is very well constructed and a good weight for its size; reflecting the quality of oak and carpentry used in its construction. The leather top is in a superbly aged green colour with gold patterned tooling to the edges. The leather is in exceptional condition for its age. An original oak gallery surrounds the sides and rear of the desk. The handles and locks are stunning quality in perfectly aged weighty brass. The hardware was supplied by Wilks Brothers in Sheffield (Est 1892 and closed in 1956) with stamps to prove. One key is present that operates all locks, so all four drawers are lockable. The left hand drawer is double height for filing. A truly beautiful solid desk oozing antique style and charm. If you re going to work from home, do in in real style. This desk is beautiful to own but also a superb investment desk.
All four drawers run freely and are very clean inside. The desk could also be used as a dressing table, a dress table or console table because it is so beautiful to look at.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb quality antique desk.
There appears to be a small of repair to the front of the central kneehole desk (photographed) and one area of small damage to the front edge (photographed). Small and in no way detracting from the beauty of the desk but we like to point all imperfections out that may affect your decision to purchase.

An amazing desk in solid English oak, dating from 1939. These desks typically came from a Government office/ Public Service such as Civil Servant Offices, Schools, Railways etc. This desk is stamped with George VI and the crown on the underside, together with Wake & Dean Ltd 1939. The beautiful aged brass cup handles also carry the GR VI stamps.
Now presented in a beautifully aged golden oak that only time can offer. The desk also retains its original green leather top with only very minor cosmetic imperfections (please see photographs). Both drawers run freely with beautiful brass cup handles. We have had a number of these George V and George VI desks and they always sell so so quickly.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb quality antique desk.

The leather is in exceptional condition for its age with just one small dark ring mark to the bottom left corner (please see photograph). A beautiful solid desk oozing antique style and charm. Both drawers run freely and have been fully cleaned out. The drawers both have locks but no keys. Should you want keys cut it would be an additional £30 for the locksmiths to take the locks apart and match a key.

An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess double pedestal desk in Oak. These are often referred to as Teacher’s desks but tis came from a private home office of a Manager at Toyota Cars in Warwickshire. This one dates from around 1940 and is a superb original condition. It retains all of its internal drawer locking mechanism. A spring loaded mechanism that locks all 6 drawers when the centre drawer is closed and locked with the key. It is very rare that these original mechanisms are still in tact and working. To unlock all drawers you simply unlock the centre drawer and let it pop out slightly to release all the pedestal drawers. It is in a gorgeous rich colour and a really good size. The original Abbess stationery tray is still present as are all of the brass feet. The feet can be wound out to level the desk on uneven floors or raise the whole desk height by around 30mm (maximum). A very good example indeed.

A very attractive and stylish double pedestal desk dating from the 1930’s. These desks are often referred to as teachers desks. This one is in beautifully aged oak finish, not too dark or light – just right! It has six free running and clean drawers in total. The bottom drawer of the right hand pedestal is a double height filing drawer. A super desk with lots of work space and huge storage space. All handles are original and worn perfectly. The brass feet tips to each of the legs are also original and a very nice finishing feature, marking the quality of hand manufacture.
The desk does dismantle for ease of moving through doorways, carrying upstairs etc. but please let us know if you would like the desk delivered fully assembled or taken down to its parts (top, two pedestals, two cross retaining bars). All very simple for anybody to reassemble. Or we can do it for a small fee, if required.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb antique desk that looks beautiful.

A very cute mid Century compact desk in oak . These are often referred to as Teacher’s desks. This one dates from the late 1930’s and is in super original condition. It also has a very useful extending leaf to the side for extra work surface when required. This is perfect for where space is tight but you still need a fully functioning and gorgeous vintage teachers desk. The desk has a superb colour and patina. With three really useful drawers and a pull out shelf/ top tray, this desk has all the style and charm you want in its compact size.
