£0FREE Ground Floor Delivery on this desk within approximately 150 miles of Cambridgeshire. Some more remote and rural areas will incur a charge.
This desk has an incredible provenance. It came out of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University, where the first atom was split in April 1932. John Cockroft and Ernest Walton split the first atom at the Cavendish Laboratory. We have video evidence of the stairs to the laboratory and the office to the right, where this desk was. Clearly we can not say if either of these two pioneering scientists ever used the desk but the age and location fit perfectly.
The desk is beautiful in its own right. Dating from the late teens to early 1930’s it is presented in its original oak. We gave as little restoration to the piece as we could. We simply cleaned the desk, sanded and cleaned the internal drawer liners and also restored the top only. We wanted to keep as much of the desk in its original used condition as possible; whilst also offering a piece ready for a very lucky new owner to cherish. An rare opportunity to own a very special desk.
This size is superb for home/ home office/ study. Not too large but a really useful size work space.
The desk does not disassemble so please measure all door widths and access points (e.g. stairs, turning points) before purchasing.

137cm Wide, 76cm Deep, 76.5cm High
