£0FREE ground floor shipping on this item within approximately 130 miles of Cambridgeshire. More remote and rural areas will incur a charge.
A beautiful large chest of two over three graduated drawers in oak, dating from around 1920 to mid 1930’s. They were produced by the world renowned Gillows of Lancaster and London, also known as Gillow & Co., an English furniture making firm based in Lancaster, Lancashire, and in London. It was founded in Lancaster in about 1730 by Robert Gillow (1704–1772).[1]
Gillows was owned by the family until 1814 when it was taken over by Redmayne, Whiteside, and Ferguson; they continued to use the Gillow name. Gillows furniture was a byword for quality, and other designers used Gillows to manufacture their furniture. Gillows furniture is referred to by Jane Austen, Thackeray and the first Lord Lytton, and in one of Gilbert and Sullivan‘s comic operas.[3][a] In 1903 Gillows merged with Warings of Liverpool to become Waring and Gillow.
There are the tell tell signs of Waring & Gillow quality production throughout. The chest of drawers are finished in quarter drawn oak with beautiful swan neck brass handles attached to the drawers. The brass locks attached to the two top drawers are also stamped with Waring & Gillow. All five drawers are very clean inside and of sound and solid construction. Each drawer gets deeper from top to bottom with a very impressive deep bottom drawer that would have traditionally been used for storing blankets, bed throws etc. Now it is perfect for those chunky knit jumpers too!
A truly beautiful and unique piece of furniture ready for a new owner to treasure.

£0FREE Delivery on this item within approximately 130 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield areas will incur a surcharge to send via couriers.
An unusual early 20th century side table with lift up lid and storage within. The piece dates to around the late 1910’s to 1930 and retains its original hinges and handles. It came to us in a very dull brown finish and no legs. We fully stripped it and gave it a new lease of life in Farrow & Ball Off Black with a clear wax for resilience and protection. We then added some aged copper hairpin legs, of good solid steel construction.
We think this is now a highly flexible and superbly stylish piece that would add a touch of chic to a variety of rooms/ interiors. It could be used as a side table for drinks, books, magazines etc or a lamp table or even a plant stand or towel table in the bathroom. A classic but very stylish piece.

A rare original Herbert Terry 1208 for Anglepoise floor lamp in very good original condition. Presented in its rich cream/ dark ivory colour (original paint). A fantastic original lamp that is even rarer to have a fixed cast iron base, instead of the more common trolley wheel base, commonly used in hospitals, doctor’s surgeries etc. Herbert Terry manufactured lamps for Anglepoise from the late 1930’s to the 1960’s, when Anglepoise replaced the model with the original Type 75 lamp (1968-73) then latterly the Type 90 (1973 to early 1980’s). The 1227 is a very popular model that sells really quickly – and we completely understand why. They look fantastic already but will just keep getting better with time.
