FREE Delivery on this item within approximately 130 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield locations will incur a surcharge to send via couriers.

A fantastic example of Globe Wernicke’s stacking ‘elastic’ bookcase. Wernicke Co. produced the Elastic bookcase in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 19th Century (founded circa 1882) until they were bought by The Globe Files Co. in 1899. Wernicke invented the elastic bookcase and patented the designs.

Once Globe bought Wernicke the famous brand Globe-Wernicke began producing the elastic stack able book cases under patent in the USA. Thomas Turner also started marketing the design in England. Globe-Wernicke then expanded in to Canada, France, Belgium and Austria.

This is a beautiful example dating from circa 1920 to 1930 and presented in a very warm medium oak finish. Unusually the bottom section is much taller and deeper than the more often seen Globe Wernicke sections. The top section retains the original Globe Wernicke label for authenticity. Each section has the patented up and over door system to access the inside.   The Globe Wernicke bookcases are becoming increasingly sought after and this is a really lovely example. With five sections it offers some incredible storage with a real style statement.

All sections easily separate for ease of transportation and moving in to the room of your choice.

Dimensions:

202cm High, 86.5cm Width, 48cm Max Depth (bottom section), upper sections are max 29cm deep.
