FREE Delivery on this item within approximately 130 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield locations will incur a surcharge to send via couriers.

A fantastic example of Globe Wernicke’s stacking ‘elastic’ bookcase. Wernicke Co. produced the Elastic bookcase in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 19th Century (founded circa 1882) until they were bought by The Globe Files Co. in 1899. Wernicke invented the elastic bookcase and patented the designs.

Once Globe bought Wernicke the famous brand Globe-Wernicke began producing the elastic stack able book cases under patent in the USA. Thomas Turner also started marketing the design in England. Globe-Wernicke then expanded in to Canada, France, Belgium and Austria.

This is a beautiful example dating from circa 1920 to 1930 and presented in a very warm and rich finish. The base section also has a pull out drawer for additional storage, complete with its original and gorgeous handles. The sections retain the original Globe Wernicke labels for authenticity. Each section has the patented up and over door system to access the inside.   The Globe Wernicke bookcases are becoming increasingly sought after and this is a really lovely example. With five sections and a drawer, it offers some incredible storage with a real style statement.

All sections easily separate for ease of transportation and moving in to the room of your choice.

Dimensions:

183cm High, 87cm Width, 33cm Max Depth,

Bottom section 34cm high, middle 3 sections 29cm high, top section 24cm high. Max internal storage depth 24cm
