An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess desk in Oak. These are often referred to as Teacher’s desks. This one dates from around 1950 and is a superb rich colour and size. Two drawers to the pedestals offering lost of really useful storage, with the bottom drawer being a double height filing type drawer. This desk also has its original screw out brass feet to level the desk for uneven floors or give an extra 2cm of height, if required.
We fully cleaned and restored this one to its former glory. Please check all photographs for the condition. A beautiful rich aged oak colour and patina that will just age perfectly. The size is perfect if you have smaller space or want to create a work space, rather than a dedicated study or home office room.
We have sold a number of these Abbess desks and they never hang around for long.

The desk is in completely original condition with the Abbess makers label still (predominantly) in tact to the front of the desk, Abbess stamp to the inside of the top drawer and even the original brass feet for levelling the desk on uneven floors. An excellent example of the ever popular Abbess double pedestal desk in Oak. This one has a superb back story too. It was owned since 1986 by a prestigious Music journalist that used the desk to write many articles. He wrote for many of the top UK Magazines including Q, NME, and JazzLife. He won Music Journalist of the year twice! These desks are often referred to as Teacher’s desks and it may have been in a school for 30 years before being acquired by its previous owner.
The desk dates from around the 1950’s and is a superb colour and size. Three drawers to the left hand pedestal and two drawers to the right hand pedestal. The bottom right hand drawer being a double height filing type drawer. This desk also has the central kneehole drawer. There are also two pull out trays, the right hand one being the original Abbess stationery tray. All in all offering lots of really useful storage. We had to sand back and restore the top as it clearly had been used for lots of work and was tired and peeling. It is now fully restored and ready for another 50 years of work and creativity by a lucky new owner.
A great size desk, offering a generous fully functioning workspace but not too large to be difficult to position or accommodate. The colour and condition are exactly right for a very stylish work/ study desk. With the prestigious back story to boot, it is a fantastic opportunity to get a desk with real soul.
We have sold a number of these Abbess desks and they never hang around for long. Especially not in this colour with history.

Three drawers to both pedestals offering lost of really useful storage. The top drawer of the right hand pedestal has a working lock and two keys.
A great size offering a generous fully functioning desk but not too large to be difficult to position or accommodate. The colour and condition are exactly right for a very stylish work/ study desk. There is one old burn mark on the top of the desk, approximately 3cm long and 0.5cm wide (please see photograph). Purely cosmetic but we have photographed to show the true condition.

A very different and very stylish mid Century desk in oak. This one dates from the 1960’s and has some beautiful grain work to the oak finish. The desk is in a superb colour and made from solid oak frame work with good quality oak veneer to the top and drawer fronts. It also has its original brass drawer knobs that have aged perfectly in colour. We fully cleaned the desk, lightly sanded back the wood and gave it all a fresh coat of varnish. The size of the desk is perfect for most homes. Not too large to worry about it passing through doorways and stairs etc but large enough to offer a really usable work surface. The three drawers run very freely and are clean internally. There is also a pull out stationary tray to the top of the pedestal, above the drawers. There are two small areas of missing veneer on the inside of the kneehole area at the very bottom. They have been photographed so please check all photos. Just ask if you have any more questions over the condition but the photographs are an accurate representation.
The colour and condition are exactly right for a very stylish work/ study desk.

A very different and very stylish mid Century desk in quality heavyweight teak. This dates from the 1960’s and has been well constructed by hand with quality comb woodwork joints to the drawers. The desk is made from heavy teak with a beautifully aged colour and exceptional grain. Very distinctive grain for teak. The desk offers lots of storage with five clean and free running drawers. The bottom drawer of the right hand pedestal is a double height filing type drawer. The works surface is a fantastic size for a regular use desk. The desk sits on its original solid teak dansette style legs. Superb styling, condition and practicality all in one great desk.
