1960s Bookcase by Staverton in Hague Blue
£0FREE Two man ground floor delivery on this piece to most UK postcodes. Further afield and more remote areas will incur a surcharge.
A completely unique original mid century glazed bookcase, produced by Staverton in 1962. This piece came to us in such a terrible state of veneer and dirt. We couldn’t save the veneer so we had to rethink a complete refurbishment and reinvention. The whole bookcase was fully stripped back and refinished in Farrow & Ball Hague Blue, with a clear coat of wax for resilience and protection. The inside was fully sanded back, cleaned and re-varnished. The doors were all stripped, sanded back and refinished in Hague Blue then glazed with new reeded glass for a true contemporary finish. We love the finished piece! A real fusion of original mid century meets Contemporary practicality.
We have styled the bookcase as a mix of books and drinks cabinet but this could have so many potential uses e.g a kitchen cupboard for glass, mugs, cups etc, a spice rack and cooking ingredients store, a bathroom cabinet for towels and toiletries, a bedroom piece for hair and beauty products, the list goes on…… 🙂
Wait til your visitors see this one in your home?

Matching Pair of Solid Oak Mid Century Bookcases
£0FREE Shipping on this item within approximately 130 miles of Cambridgeshire. Further afield areas will incur a charge to send via couriers.
An excellent example of original mid century low glazed bookcases/ units, with original glass, shelf and supports. These bookcases were supplied by Hopewell’s of Nottingham, still in business today. Established as a family Furnishings shop in 1885, they are now based in Huntingdon Street but were in Parliament Street in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s – giving these bookcases their date of circa late 195o’s to early 1960’s. There are plenty of signs of quality to the bookcases. They are made from very good quality solid oak with very nice quarter drawn oak (only possible on good quality oak). The shelves are solid oak too, with chamfered and rounded edges. The shelf supports and retaining holes are brass and brass bound. The doors are all their original glass with no chips to the edges or visible scratches. With their trapezoid shape (narrower at the top, wider at the bottom) they are a beautiful, heavy, matching pair of quality mid Century bookcases. They came to us as a pair and were probably bought new as a pair. We would therefore like to keep them together and sell as a pair.
Very stylish, flexible in their use, and easily accommodatable size. A superb pair.
Dimensions for each bookcase:
84.5cm High, 91cm Width, 33cm Max Depth (bottom), 22.5cm Min Depth (Top)

An excellent example of an original mid century low glazed bookcase/ unit/ sideboard in teak, with original glass and wood sliding doors. Produced around the late 1960’s this is a really clean and completely original example from the Herbert Gibbs with the silver label to the rear for authenticity. A great size, superb colour with original adjustable shelves and original glass. The glass doors have two chips. Generally camouflaged by the central teak divider, when closed, but we have to point this out for honesty and transparency of the condition. The chips have been reflected in the price. Apart from the chips, as photographed, the doors are free from any visible scratches and all doors slide really easily.
It offers lots of mid Century style and very flexible storage capabilities as a bookcase, drinks cabinet, etc. It can easily be accommodated in to living, dining or bedroom styling.
