This is a very stylish and rare early 20th Century reclining dentists chair in solid oak. It dates from the 1900’s to late 1920’s and was produced and distributed by C J Plucknett of Poland Street, London W1 (c1880-1982). C J Plucknett were better known for their fine silver ware (with a globally recognised makers stamp CJP) and also producers of fine jewellery and watches. They later became involved in the manufacture and supply of dental equipment. No that is what is called ‘diversification’?!
The chair is very well constructed form quality English oak with solid joints and small details showing the quality of handmade construction. Details such as the brass brackets on the inside of the arms to prevent any splitting of the framework from the reclining of the chair in and out of the reclining grooves. The quality and grade of leather is also very high end and another mark of the quality, as is the leather faced upholstery tacks.
We think it now makes a perfect statement chair, with a great back story and provenance. A classic antique piece with timeless clean lines that will certainly appreciate with time.
