A beautiful example of Globe Wernicke’s stacking ‘elastic’ bookcase. Wernicke Co. produced the Elastic bookcase in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 19th Century (founded circa 1882) until they were bought by The Globe Files Co. in 1899. Wernicke invented the elastic bookcase and patented the designs.
Once Globe bought Wernicke the famous brand Globe-Wernicke began producing the elastic stack able book cases under patent in the USA. Thomas Turner also started marketing the design in England. Globe-Wernicke then expanded in to Canada, France, Belgium and Austria.
This is a beautiful example dating from circa 1920 to the early 1930’s and presented in a very warm and rich mahogany finish. The sections retain the original Globe Wernicke labels for authenticity. Each section has the patented up and over door scissor system to access the inside. The Globe Wernicke bookcases are becoming increasingly sought after and this is a really lovely example. With four nice tall sections it offers very flexible storage with a real style statement.
All sections easily separate for ease of transportation and moving in to the room of your choice.
