Mid Century Wood Effect Steel Filing Cabinet by Art Metal

A great set of original mid century (c 1940-50) steel filing drawers by Art Metal (London, SW1). Most of these cabinets are by Roneo. Art Metal cabinets are much harder to find; especially in this condition with this finish. This cabinet is unusual in that it is a green filing cabinet underneath but was finished (from new) in a paint effect to look like wood grain. Great colour and superb original condition, with perfectly aged original brass ware. They are very rare to find in unscratched condition. This one survived so well as it came directly from a solicitor’s office in Warwickshire, where it spent its whole life in an office, rather than a warehouse or engineering firm. They clearly looked after it well!
A very nice size for home or office. The cabinet and drawers have all been fully cleaned and the runners re-oiled. Superb condition for its age with plenty of industrial design and character. Industrial style and practicality all rolled in to one.

A fantastic solid and heavy oak desk that looks very contemporary and stylish. This desk dates from the late 1920’s to mid 1930’s. It is a beautiful colour and size with plenty of storage within the six drawers. The desk has three drawers to the left pedestal, a central knee hole drawer and a double height filing style drawer to the right pedestal, with a further standard sized drawer above. Both pedestals also have pull out top shelves for drinks, resting books, mouse mat etc. There is one small area of missing veneer to the left hand side panel of the desk. Please see the photographs for detailed condition.
These desk are most commonly referred to as teachers desks now. We have sold a number of these old teachers desks and they never hang around for long.

It now offers a beautiful seat that would style up any hallway, boot room, utility room etc. All joints are solid and the bench is now fully cleaned and ready to place wherever you need it.
