A quite outstanding original Victorian cheese cutter. Of a quality and size that would have originally sat in a good quality cheese shop. The makers badge of Lord Haigh & Co. (Hull) is still present on the rear of the base. The whole piece is of such impressive scale and age that it could either make a purely decorative statement piece in a kitchen, or be a fully functioning cheese cutter and party piece for the centre of the table? Either way it is an incredibly rare find and is in beautiful condition for its age. A gorgeous item to own and/ or give as a gift for the cheese lover in your life?
We haven’t seen many better than this!

A quite incredible set of original Victorian weighing scales. Of a quality and size that would have originally sat in a good quality grocer’s store. The scales are very heavy and completely original throughout. They probably weigh 25kg as photographed. The base is hand carved and shaped oak with the original marble top. The scales are of heavy gauge steel with the top display pieces bright chrome plated. The chrome is in excellent condition for its age. The weight bed is of stainless steel formed plate. The set of weights are solid brass, cleaned and polished, complete with the VR stamp for authenticity. The original glass plate has one chip where it meets the chrome upright. The chip is approximately 1.5cm wide, 0.5cm in (please see photographs).
We think the scales are a very rare find and would make an amazing statement decorative piece in a kitchen or restaurant. We haven’t seen many better than this!

These original mid 20th Century weighing scales are superb. We adore the perfectly aged brass face. They date from around 1940-50 and were produced by the world renowned Salter company. The scales are completely original, of superb commercial grade quality materials and construction. The quality is evident in their size, design and weight, together with the quality of commercial grade materials used. We think they now make a perfect individual style statement in the right kitchen. Use as a fruit or vegetable bowl or dress with a hanging plant to see how many comments you get from visitors!
The scales are working but have not been calibrated or tested. We envisage them as a decorative piece hanging in a kitchen used as a perfectly styled country kitchen fruit or vegetable bowl. Perfect country charm and perfectly aged brass.
The original wall bracket could be removed if you preferred to have the scales hang on a hook from the ceiling.

These original mid Century weighing scales are superb. They date from around 1960-70 and were produced by the world renowned Salter company. The scales are completely original, of superb commercial grade quality materials and construction. The quality is evident in their size, design and weight. and quality of commercial grade materials used. We think they now make a perfect individual style statement in the right kitchen. Use as a fruit or vegetable bowl or dress with a hanging plant to see how many comments you get form visitors!
The scales are working. One face has more paint loss and natural ageing form use. The other face is more complete and in ‘better condition. Depends how rustic you like your vintage items and what look you love the most. Some of the chrome plating is pitting on the cradle under the bowl. Can not be seen with the bowl in situ. Very good condition given their age and years of commercial use. Pretty hard to find these.

These original mid Century weighing scales are exceptional, imposing and beautiful. They date from around 1950-60 and were produced by the Dutch manufacturers Berkel. Berkel were world renowned for their highest quality commercial scales and slicers. The General Electric Company (GEC) later merged Berkel (following a take over) with Avery to produce Avery Berkel in 1993.
These scales are completely original. The quality is evident in their size, design, weight and quality of commercial grade materials used. Solid stainless steel throughout they weigh around 20kgs+.
The scales are fully working and save for a few patches of enamel lost on one of the side plates they are as good a condition as it gets, for something that is 60-70 years old.
Outstanding! They would make such a statement piece in the right home. You certainly wouldn’t want to hide these away in a cupboard.
Try to find another set that comes anywhere close to these. The only other set we could find (dating from 1970) in a dull stainless steel finish and nowhere near as good condition are retailing at £695 GBP.

£0These original mid Century weighing scales are exceptional in every way. They date from around 1950-60 and were produced by the Dutch manufacturers Berkel. Berkel were world renowned for their highest quality commercial scales and slicers. The General Electric Company (GEC) later merged Berkel (following a take over) with Avery to produce Avery Berkel in 1993.
These scales are completely original and have been fully taken apart to clean all areas. Screws removed to clean below and around the screw heads etc. They have then been gently polished to show the original, fine quality and stunning condition of the stainless steel finish.
The scales are fully working and save for a few patches of enamel lost on one of the side plates they are as good a condition as it gets, for something that is 60-70 years old.
Outstanding! They would make such a statement piece in the right home.
Try to find another set that comes anywhere close to these. The only other set we could find (dating from 1970) in a dull stainless steel finish and nowhere near as good condition are retailing at £695 GBP.
