A stunning example of an original antique book case or drinks cabinet by Maple & Co.
Maple and Co was one the largest and most successful British furniture retailers and cabinet makers in the Late 19th Century, Victorian and Edwardian periods. They were well known for fine quality, craftsmanship and were specialists in copying old designs but bringing them up to date to the more modern trends. They produced many quality pieces of antique furniture in designs such as Hepplwhite and Chippendale but also were well known for their quality Arts & Crafts Furniture.
This beautiful piece is presented in perfectly aged mahogany with its original astragal glazed doors, glass, lock and key. The shelves are easily adjustable in height by moving the brass supports up or down within the unit. The bookcase is set on superbly styled solid mahogany ball and claw feet. Even the brass locking bolts and hinges are completely original and beautifully preserved.
We re-finished the back in Farrow & Ball Wevet eggshell. This gave the piece a contemporary facelift to bring it bang on trend for 2021. What a perfectly gorgeous gin cabinet? It would be very hard to find a better example than this.
