An exceptional full 9 drawer Architect/ Plan chest of drawers by Abbess. These drawers came to us from the North o f Scotland Agriculture College in Aberdeen. They sat in the same spot since the early 1950’s. Inside the drawers were original drawings and plans from the early 1950’s, along with a handwritten Visitors book, dating back to 1953. All of this provenance will be included within the sale. We have never seen a more original Abbess plan chest in such superb condition. All of the drawers run freely and are free from any chips or the usual marks. The Abbess makers label is still present, as is the stamp inside one of the drawers.
The colour and grain are superb. Made from oak they have been stained (from new) in a rich golden brown walnut colour, that has just got better and better over the decades. This chest splits in to three sections (plus a base made later) for easier transportation and positioning in to the room of your choice. Immense storage in stunning style and exceptional condition. These chests are never with us long. We have not seen a better example of an Abbess plan chest than this one.

A very stylish mid Century Architect/ Plan chest of drawers in a beautiful rich walnut colour. These drawers came to us from an 85 year old artist that was finally ‘retiring’. She painted, printed and framed for over 60 years from her home studio.
We gave the piece a full clean and gentle restoration to really make it shine again. The colour and grain are superb. All the drawers are solid and free running with exceptionally clean interiors. These chests are incredibly popular and are hard to find in a condition and size like this. We had to fully clean, strip, stain and finish every drawer and the framework, including the top. These chests are incredibly popular and are hard to find in a condition like this. A beautiful and rare set of Architect’s/ Plan Drawers in oak. They would have been made in the 1950’s from solid oak and oak veneer. The carcass is heavy and substantial being finished in oak veneer as is exactly the norm with these plan chests form this era. The drawer fronts and handles are made from solid oak. The draw liners are pine. It is a stunning piece and very hard to find full chest in such amazing original condition. The colour and patina on these drawers are just perfect. The drawers are sized to hold A0 paper but the chest are now so popular as a statement piece they can be used in whichever room you choose and store whatever you wish.
The chest does split in to three sections (bottom plinth, three drawer bottom section and three drawer upper section) for easier transportation and locating to the position you wish.
This piece is in great original condition, very clean, structurally solid with just a few old marks and one old veneer repair to the top. Please see photographs for full condition and just ask if you have any questions. The top drawer has a much later inner section added. It is well made form oak with a green baize liner base. The liner is not fixed and can easily be lifted out should you wish to have the full drawer size available.
6 very large, clean and very usable drawers. Stunning all round colour, amazing original drawers and handles. Fantastically on trend styling that will just keep getting better with age. Very hard to find chests of this size and age that are complete and in excellent original condition!

A beautiful early 20th Century Wellington chest of drawers in oak. They date from around the 1920’s to 1930 and are presented in beautiful quality radial cut oak throughout. All eight drawers run smoothly and are hand made with pin dovetail joints and their original oak turned button handles. The colour and grain of the oak are amazing. Such a beautiful piece perfect for storing whatever you treasure – sewing, crafts, magazines, collectables etc. It could also be a superb tall lamp or side table.
A very heavy piece for its size, reflecting the quality of oak and thickness used. Storage doesn’t come much better than this?

A very stylish mid Century chest of drawers in a light golden oak. The style is very much of the large Architect/ Plan Chests that are incredibly popular and highly sought after at the moment. This chest has the advantage of being much easier to accommodate than a full plan chest set of drawers. We love the style and condition, together with the perfectly aged brass label holders. The drawers are very clean and offer lost of really useful storage.

A very stylish and cute chest of drawers that we fully refinished in Farrow & Ball Hague Blue Estate Emulsion for a flat matt finish. The drawers are made from solid Yew wood and date to probably the 1980’s. In an Edwardian style they are solid (no MDF or chipboard here!) The top has been clear waxed for protection against spills and marks. We love the finished effect. A contemporary update to a classic piece with pretty handles and five drawers offering very useful storage. It now makes a very stylish and contemporary chest for almost any room you choose – living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom etc.
Stylish, well made, great to look at and really useful. Exactly what we love to offer.

A great looking early 20th Century set of drawers in oak. We bought these drawers as we love the ‘Plan Chest’ styling. Good coloured oak with a nicely aged patina, they have numbers on the drawer fronts with some age and later added brass label holders. The chest has good weight to it reflecting the good quality oak construction. Very much plan chest styling that most people can easily accommodate due to their size. Just a nice looking solid chest of antique drawers. Something different from the masses, for sure.

A beautiful and rare full set of Architect’s/ Plan Drawers in oak, manufactured by Abbess. Abbess manufactured many types of utilitarian Government and School office equipment as they were renowned for their high quality at affordable prices.
This is a rare large architect’s/ plan chest with 9 full size drawers. It is constructed from good quality solid oak (framework, drawer fronts and handles). The sides and top are oak veneer. The drawer internals are pine. Original central recessed drawer label holders are are still in tact and in beautiful condition. Brass label holders have been added at a later date but do have some age and a nice ageing patina. The chest does split in to three sections for easier transportation and locating to the position you wish. All three sections holds three drawers when separated.
This piece is in great original condition, very clean, structurally solid with just a few old marks. Please see photo graphs for full condition.
