The condition is excellent for the age of the cabinet with no major scratches, rust etc; which are all very common on these old filing cabinets. It is the perfect size for home or office with suspension file rails still present and in tact (3 of the four drawers). The cabinet and drawers have all been fully cleaned and the runners re-oiled. Superb condition for its age with plenty of industrial design and character. Industrial style and practicality all rolled in to one.

A pretty rare early 20th Century steel filing cabinet by Milners (later to become Harvey Milner). With the superb heavy handles we estimate that it dates to around the early to mid 1950’s. The filing cabinet, handles and label holders are all original and present. Three of the drawers have their original suspension file cages and the bottom drawer has a sliding stay. Very good original condition for its age and much rarer than most of the vintage filing cabinets made by Roneo, Stor and Art Metal. Milner distinguished their industrial steel furniture by their quality and weight – often seen as the Rolls Royce of filing cabinets at their peak. For this reason Milner seem to have a dedicated following to match other pieces of their steel furniture such as desks, tall cabinets etc.
Industrial style and practicality all rolled in to one. Cabinets of this age by Milner are rarely seen. An industrial style investment!

This cabinet came from the private home of a lady that owned it form new to run the farm’s paperwork. At the grand old age of 103 she was ‘retiring’ and moving in to a care home ‘for a rest’. What a superb back story? A piece of superb provenance and history in a piece that looks this good?!
