A very stylish 19th Century Victorian glazed dresser / bookcase in original mahogany finish. It dates from around 1870 to 1890 and has original cabinetry, glass, upper section lock and key. The lower section has a secret serpentine drawer with two door cupboard below. The corbels are very well carved. The dresser is in original condition with some signs of old repairs and a few ‘dings’ here and there. It is good condition for its age with all joints solid and all four doors opening freely on their original hinges. We fully cleaned and oiled the original exterior finish then repainted the top internal with Farrow & Ball Wevet colour paint. This has given the piece the perfect mix of antique, rustic and contemporary. It is very stylish, subtle in design and very flexible in the colours – to match a vast array of room palletes. The size is very good too. Not too huge and imposing but also offering plenty of stylish storage.
We think it would also make a fantastic and individual kitchen / diner cabinet or a bookcase/ dresser. The piece splits in to two sections for ease of transportation and siting.
Please note this is over 130 years old and does carry residual marks and damage from use, along with a couple of old repairs (done well) to the hinge area of the right door. We have photographed everything to try and show its true condition, so please examine the photographs closely and just ask, should you need more photographs or a detailed condition report. All marks are part of its history and add to the rustic appeal and original character of the piece. Perfectly imperfect!
Superb rustic chic charm.
Dimensions: 208cm High, 90cm Max Width, 39cm Max Depth (bottom), 29cm Max Depth top section (at the top cornice)

£0FREE Shipping on this piece. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A truly stunning early 20th Century glazed bookcase / dresser in perfectly aged mahogany. It dates from around the early 1900’s to 1920 and has completely original cabinetry, glass, internal brass hardware and stunning handles. The bookcase originally came from a Headmaster’s office in Halifax, West Yorkshire. It was bought by a traveling salesman and has been owned for the last 50 years by the same family. The dresser is in excellent original condition for its age with all joints solid. The brass ware is amongst the best we have come across. Each door handle knob turns to release its catch. Unusual for a bookcase, and a sign of the quality of manufacture and cost when produced.
The piece was likely commissioned for the Headmaster by T.Simpson & Sons of Halifax. Simpson & Sons is a well know maker and pieces by their hands now command very high prices. It has one significant cosmetic point to note. A scratch on the upper section of the bottom cupboard. Purely cosmetic and could be filled and polished out, should you wish.
We think it makes a fantastic dresser but could equally be a sunning kitchen/ diner cabinet for glasses, crockery etc.
It des split in to two sections for delivery and transport but will require a dedicated two man delivery team.
Dimensions: 211cm High, 137.5cm Max Width, 52cm Max Depth (bottom), 36.5cm Max Depth top section (at the top cornice)
