£0FREE Ground Floor Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A truly beautiful desk in solid oak and walnut, dating from 1850 to 1870. It was produced by world renowned craftsmen at Gillows & Co of Lancaster. The stamp of authenticity is present on the top of the left hand drawer (see photograph).
Gillows of Lancaster and London, also known as Gillow & Co., was an English furniture making firm based in Lancaster, Lancashire, and in London. It was founded in Lancaster in about 1730 by Robert Gillow (1704–1772).[1]
Gillows was owned by the family until 1814 when it was taken over by Redmayne, Whiteside, and Ferguson; they continued to use the Gillow name. Gillows furniture was a byword for quality, and other designers used Gillows to manufacture their furniture. Gillows furniture is referred to by Jane Austen, Thackeray and the first Lord Lytton, and in one of Gilbert and Sullivan‘s comic operas.[3][a] In 1903 Gillows merged with Warings of Liverpool to become Waring and Gillow and although the furniture remained of a high quality it was not as prestigious. The desk is made from oak and walnut, solid throughout. It is in completely original condition and beautiful for its age. It will carry some cosmetic marks so please see all photographs for the condition and just ask if you need more shots or detail.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb quality antique desk.

£0FREE Ground Floor Delivery on this desk usually within 10 days. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A beautiful genuine antique desk in solid mahogany, dating from the late 192o’s. It came to us in a poor state with its original stain and varnish peeling and in bad condition. We stripped the desk back and refinished it in a beautifully rich French Navy colour. This complements the original leather top and original heavy brass handles beautifully. The leather top is in excellent condition for its age with superb gold gilded border work, which also complements the Navy colour so well. It is a heavy , very well made desk that offers a very generous work surface.
We love the finished piece. A perfect blend of original antique and fresh bold contemporary design. A unique and stylish desk that offers real value for money and a statement desk.
Please note that the desk does not disassemble. You should double check that the desk will pass through all doorways and turns before purchasing. Any questions then please just ask us.

A beautiful antique desk in solid English oak, dating from the late 192o’s. We sourced four of these desk directly from a school in Lancashire where they have been used since new. The school opened in 1921 and these desks were supplied a few years later. They are complete original with the LLC (Lancashire Council) stamp on each desk. The brass cup handles are also original. We adore the shape of the legs and that the desks are not too big for you to be able to accommodate at home. A very nicely sized work surface but not a mission to be able to get in to the room you need.

A beautiful antique desk in solid beech frame and drawers, dating from the 195o’s. It was supplied for the Crown by Staverton for Military or Civil Service use. These desks typically came from a Government office/ Public Service such as Civil Servant Offices, Schools, Railways etc. The top is the original which has now attained a unique crackle glazed patina. We couldn’t replace that originality. People will either love it or not but there is only one chance at original. Nothing that detracts from the desk in any way but we like to point out any issues and also show in the photographs. The close up photographs show the finish. All ready for regular use and another 70 years.

£0FREE Delivery on this desk. More remote and rural locations will incur a charge.
A beautiful antique desk in solid English oak, dating from the 193o’s. It was supplied by the Crown for Military or Civil Service use. These desks typically came from a Government office/ Public Service such as Civil Servant Offices, Schools, Railways etc. We restored the oak framework as the original brown finish was dark and very inconsistent. it looked very tired indeed! We re-finished it in a very flexible warm mid oak which always seems to be our most popular finish for desks. Both drawers are free running with original handles, stamped with the Crown and GR (George Regina). The top is the original gorgeous green finish, though does carry some cosmetic marks form its past. Nothing that detracts from the desk in any way but we like to point out any issues and also show in the photographs. The close up photographs make the marks look worse than they really are! Now very fresh and ready for regular use.
This will only get better with age and appreciate in value. A superb quality antique desk.
Please not that the desk does not disassemble. The top may be removed but would only change the depth by a few centimetres. You should double check that the desk will pass through all doorways and turns before purchasing. Any questions then please just ask us.
