A very unusual design on this late 1920’s/ early 1930’s single pedestal desk in solid oak throughout. It came form the home of a retired teacher in Gloucester. She adored the size and design. The closed lyre leg design and side drawer set this table apart from the majority of old ‘teachers’s desks’. The top work surface has been recovered (around the 1970’s) with an oak effect laminated top. This has clearly been done professionally with a chamfered edge finish. The new work surface makes the desk much more usable as a working desk and resistant to stains and marking of wood.
It now offers a very stylish perfectly usable desk or as a dress/ console table table. The natural oak colour is perfectly aged. There is one sign of an old repair at the top of one leg (please see the photographs).
With three generous drawers to the pedestal and a beautiful side drawer it offers a lot of very useful storage too! Perfectly stylish and flexible in its uses.
